Suits

I am a big fan of Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) from TV Series Suits. His philosophy of operating at work is simply amazing. He might not be making all the right calls all the times, but most of the times he is. I can relate a lot of situations from Suits in my corporate world.

One of my favorites of Harvey's is:

“What are your choices when someone puts a gun to your head? What are you talking about? You do what they say or they shoot you. WRONG. You take the gun, or you pull out a bigger one. Or, you call their bluff. Or, you do any one of a hundred and forty-six other things.”

This tells me that even when you are pushed against the wall, there is always a choice. You have to be creative enough. My teams come to me with a variety of problems and complaints and wants me to resolve those. Lately, I have started to tell them that do not come to me with a problem alone, you should be prepared to tell me three possible solutions to the problem and then we jointly pick on one.

No one wants to think creatively, and wants an easy life. The key is to push yourself and think of doing the job in one hundred and forty-six other ways with constraints and challenges. This is called creativity.
